Public transportation is a predominant way for going places in many developed countries. It is a form of travel offered as it has become the to be efficient use in some of our ordinary routines. In Malaysia, there is a huge usage of local transportation especially our train system. The train system in Malaysia is run by “KTM” sort of a comfortable and economical railway service which is affordable and widely used in our capital city “Kuala Lumpur. Focused most of the work performing people have made this as a possible solution to reach the workplace easily. Even though there is a rapid development in this civilized country yet overcrowding train has taken aback up its place as an issue during peak hours. This specific situation has been a daily nightmare for Rapid KL Commuters graciously according to SAYS (2016). The causes on overcrowding train need to be identified and act to eliminate the causes of it.
2.0 Cause and Solution of Crowded Trains
2.1 Overcrowding train caused by intolerance of people.
There could be many reason for the overcrowding train issue in our country. According Star online (2016) LRT commuters heading home from the city center are experiencing overcrowded coaches, especially in high traffic areas such as the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) station. People tend to use public transport often during peak hours and it is one of the cause for the issue. This has often up to be a reason for overcrowding on the train, where there is a risk of people falling onto the tracks at the same moment. People rushes to go home as they don’t make the choice to wait with patience. Intolerance in this matter has worsen up the overcrowding issue.
2.2 Overcrowding train caused by poor maintenance of trains
Secondly, congestion might be caused by poor maintenance of trains. Lacking number of trains when one got maintenance problem where passenger have to wait too long for the next train to arrive. This might be caused due to worn out rail or befall of some internal defect. S. Kumar, G.Chattopadhyay,V.Reddy and U.Kumar(2006) has stated in their conference paper that “The effectiveness of rail inspection depends on the efficiency and accuracy of the inspecting equipment’s. It also depends on skills and experience of inspectors”. Government should be aware of this issue as they should provide proper equipment’s and experienced people in this field to avoid getting troublesome trains.
2.3 Overcrowding train caused by climate change.
Thirdly, one more reason ca be added up to the train overcrowding issue could be the challenged climate change. Sinar online (2014) have stated this issue of delayed train rise due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. Whilst, delaying has prompted passenger fall into the public transportation which ever came at first. Moreover, one of the reason could be motorist taking alternative way going places mostly during rainy season. They might end up to using public transportation hassle-free.
3.1 Solution on Overcrowding train caused by intolerance of people.
In order to reduce the overcrowding train issue which is caused by the intolerance of people I recommend passenger to use alternative transportations such as bus or taxi. It might help to reduce the congestion in train coaches. Moreover, people need to learn be patience to get into the train as if its overloaded they should wait for the next. Car-pooling can be also taken into consideration as substitution.
3.2 Solution on Overcrowding train caused by poor maintenance of trains.
In the technical point of view one of the solution which is caused by poor maintenance of trains, I suggest that there should be an improvement on the tracking system. As this would help to improve and provide better quality service. Overcrowding cannot be tackled unless there is enough rolling stock readily available to replace defective vehicles promptly. Regular monitoring on the train can also reduce the chances of faulty trains. Government can also launch more trains to solve the issue.
3.3 Solution on Overcrowding train caused by climate change.
To give a better service on this issue, early announcement should be made to the passenger if there are any circumstances of climate change such as heavy raining. This could help in the sense of where they would get an alternative way of transportation rather than to avoid falling onto the same track. Moreover, strict rules should be brought up by the government which stating the ratio of passenger that can be taken in the coaches.
In conclusion to make Malaysia a better place, we ourselves need to shape our attitude and values and be committed to make a change. Train overcrowding could be much reduced by greater use and proper enforcement of train priority measures. Operators should ensure that they introduce designs which are easy to board and allow free movement around the train. Regular monitoring is required.
