The United Nations is an organization that was tasked with maintaining security and international peace, cultivating pleasant relations midst all nations and be a center for coordinating the actions of nations. In 60 years, the U.N. has proved it cannot do the job of policing the world with exceptions for certain extreme instances involving feeble attackers most recently noted the Iraq invasion of Kuwait in the 1990s (Kevin M. Schultz 2018). In my opinion, the U.N. has not been an effective policeman and the world needs policing. This paper will show how the United States should continue to be the policeman of the world and protect and take a stand to aid those who are vulnerable from powerful oppressors or chaos to foster peace.
The United States has taken on the responsibility of being the world’s policeman by assuming the moral obligation of supporting democracy and freedom around the globe. America intercedes in foreign discords and exercises unparallel worldwide power. Its expanse worldwide values such as human rights, equality and freedom. The U.S. is the only democratic super power remaining that possess adequate military as well as economic resources to intervene and assist when foreign conflict arises in other countries and suffering occurs amongst their people. This is evident in the Bush Administration when US forces were shifted from defense against hostility to that of offense and intervention and/or policing (S. M. Tarzi. Sept. 2014).
